COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Basic Pistol is the first introductory course in our Modern Considerations curriculum. It is a foundational course that establishes the mindset behind the responsibility of gun ownership and provides an understanding of the semi-automatic handgun and its mechanics. A unique aspect of this course is to introduce students to various handguns and accessories, which can prove useful for purchasing a new firearm. This course aims to not just have students be comfortable shooting at the range, but to be able to learn and perform drills that they can do on their own.
PRE-REQUISITES:
A positive mindset and the capacity to be coachable.
TOPICS COVERED:
- 4 rules of firearm safety
- The components and operation of modern pistols
- Types, components, and purpose of modern ammunition
- Safe handling of a firearm
- Proper stance, grip, sight alignment
- Dry-firing techniques
- Fundamentals of marksmanship
- Administrative reloads and unloading of pistols
- Clearing malfunctions
GEAR REQUIREMENTS:
We pride ourselves in being a resource to our community. To that end, we can provide the following required gear if needed:
- Modern semi-automatic pistol*
- 3 magazines*
- Eye protection
- Ear protection
- 150 rounds
*In this course, pistols will be available for use by all students. However, students who already own a pistol that they use as their primary weapon are encouraged to do so.
NOT ALLOWED:
- Open-toe shoes
- Tank-tops or v-neck style shirts
