Pistol 1

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Pistol 1 is the first iteration in our Modern Considerations curriculum, an in-port course which introduces the outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster. It is a foundational course that continues to establish the mindset behind the responsibility of gun ownership as in Basic Pistol, but also adds in the considerations of engagement. We have collected this information from instructors with both vast military experience and some of the sharpest competitive shooters.

PREREQUISITES:

Basic understanding of modern semi-automatic pistols, a positive mindset, and the capacity to be coachable.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • Overview of the 4 rules of firearm safety
  • Fundamentals of marksmanship
  • Speed vs accuracy
  • Multiple threat engagements
  • Processing and prioritizing information
  • Declaration of intent
  • Identifying and clearing malfunctions

GEAR REQUIREMENTS:

We pride ourselves in being a resource to our community. To that end, we can provide the following required gear if needed:

  • 3 magazines
  • 150 rounds
  • A sturdy belt (capable of holding clip-on mag pouches and holsters)
  • Ear protection
  • Eye protection
  • Level 2 retention holster
  • Magazine pouch
  • Modern semi-automatic pistol

NOT ALLOWED:

  • Open-toe shoes
  • Serpa holsters or any holster that requires the index finger to defeat the retention mechanism
  • Tank-tops or v-neck style shirts

Pistol 2

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The objective of this course is to introduce skills and methods that will allow students to continue to train and improve their own skill set long after taking the course. We will take a deeper dive into basic shooting fundamentals and marksmanship, and introduce practical shooting applications for students of all levels.

PREREQUISITES:

Modern Considerations Pistol 1 or equivalent. Students should have a strong familiarity with their firearm, gear, and shooting fundamentals, as well as a positive mindset, and the capacity to be coachable.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • Acceptable sight picture and target considerations
  • Intro to movement
  • Multiple threat engagements
  • The importance of grip
  • Trigger considerations
  • Vision and target transitions
  • Incorporation of all the above into drills over varying distances
